3 Christmas Stockings and a Snake
3 Christmas Stockings and a Snake
Handmade Christmas gifts from Grammy. Who’s a fan? My grandmothers were both creative women. Grandma Fossey was skilled at crocheting, and I still treasure the afghan she crafted for me when I was a young teen. Grandma Turner was an expert seamstress and also enjoyed embroidery. I always appreciated the gifts my grandmas created for me, and I love giving homemade gifts to my grandchildren.
My Grammy tradition is to crochet a Christmas stocking for each grandchild, and since we have two new babies this year, it’s time to crochet! One of my grandsons loves hot pink, and he requested a new stocking in that color…so, three stockings coming right up!

Crochet Christmas Stockings
This pattern is simple and quick. While the instructions say it takes just a little over an hour to create, I take longer than that because I add a cuff and then will embroider child’s name onto cuff. Still, it’s a quick and easy project to complete.
The Quick ‘n Easy Christmas Stocking pattern was created by Priscilla Hewitt, and you can find the link here.
On the far left, the red one was created using Lion Wool Ease Thick and Quick in Cranberry. I love this yarn. It’s butter soft and has a nice elasticity that makes the project a dream. Any time you need this gauge of yarn, I recommend this variety. Cuff was crafted in Lion Wool Ease Thick and Quick in White. It’s also gorgeous using the Celebration, which is white with silver sparkles. You can see that this yarn has a superior drape; the stocking hangs so nicely.
Unfortunately, I wanted a vibrant pink, and couldn’t find it in that yarn. Therefore, the other two were made with Lion Hometown USA in Neon Pink and Minneapolis Purple. Cuff is New York White. Although not as soft, and prone to frizzy ends, it does the job.
My plan is to add names using the contrast color (cranberry, neon pink, Minneapolis Purple). I’ve also added embellishments such as sewing on buttons, bows, etc. Let your imagination go wild!
And a Snake! Crochet Snake Scarf
One of our grands is obsessed with snakes, so I was excited to find this adorable little guy. You can find the free pattern here. I can’t find the exact pattern I used, even though I just downloaded it this week! However, this is similar, with the exception of buttons for eyes.
I used Caron Simply Soft in Limelight. For worsted weight yarn, I’m also a fan of Red Heart Soft or Vanna’s Choice. Or Stylecraft, if you want to order from UK.
This was a very quick and easy project, perfect for chilly Fall days or sick days.
I can’t wait to give these gifts to my grandchildren and continue to pass on the crafting heritage.
Your turn! What gifts are you crafting this year? I’d love to hear about it. Show me photos!
