A Few of My Favorite Things
Here we are once again, pondering blessings and sharing things that are bringing some fun into life. As I’ve shared before, this is a major time of shifting responsibilities for me, and I’m working on priorities, purpose, and plans.
Something that’s been helpful for me is keeping a gratitude journal and focusing on things that are good. I like pondering what I’ll share in this monthly post. Some are small and silly, but let’s celebrate small joys every day! Here in no particular order are a few of my favorite things.

1. Apricot Tea
One of my most favorite things is drinking hot tea. I enjoy the whole ritual: warming the pot, choosing which blend to use, spooning out the tea, steeping, selecting the cup of the day, pouring, sipping. I enjoy sipping alone or hosting a tea party, which I do as often as possible.
I’ve tried some intriguing new teas this month. My favorite new flavor is Harney and Sons Apricot Tea. I pause for a moment before I open the tea, anticipating the delightful scent that will arise. Delicious.
Harney and Sons Murder on the Orient Express Blend was another new purchase, which I selected on the basis of the name alone, of course. Because Agatha Christie. Unfortunately, I didn’t love the jasmine in this one. If you enjoy jasmine tea I think you’ll love this one.
Elm leaves braving the chill.
2. Spring?
This has been the strangest spring since we moved to Oklahoma; in fact, this has been the coolest spring in decades. However, the leaves are unfurling, the grass is beginning to green, and the birds are nesting. It’s beginning to look like spring in our yard! Watching the seasons change is one of my favorite things to do.
Redbud tree leafing out!
Raspberry vine
Fresh mint leaves
3. My Devotional Time
My focus on Spiritual Growth for the past two months has cultivated some rich time in God’s Word. I’ve already shared how I spend my Devotional Time, plus given an in-depth review of my She Reads Truth Bible as well as my Inspire Journaling Bible. Later this week I’ll be sharing a review of some favorite devotional books as well as a review of what I’ve been reading this month–almost all Christian non-fiction and fiction.
Meaningful devotional time is definitely one of my favorite things…but it doesn’t just happen. It needs to be given priority and effort.
4. Log Cabin Living
We have a dream that we frequently discuss: purchasing a cabin on a river or lake for the entire family to enjoy. So, when I stumbled across Log Cabin Living on HGTV, I was hooked. It’s the same premise as House Hunters, except they’re all looking for cabins to purchase. It’s fun to dream, isn’t it?
5. Crocheting
I am so close to completing this blanket! All I lack is the border. These unexpectedly chilly spring days have been perfect for snuggling up under my work-in-progress. The rhythmic and largely mindless activity of crocheting is soothing and relaxing…and results in a lovely product. How fun is that! If you’d like to teach yourself to crochet, I like this Teach Yourself Visually Crochet book and Crochet 101. If you’d rather see visually, here’s a Learn to Crochet DVD.
That’s a wrap for my Favorite Things for this month! Now it’s your turn to share some of the things that are making you smile right now. I encourage you to sit down with a journal and write down everything that comes to mind that is good in your life. An attitude of thankfulness will change your life.

How to Find Joy in the Mundane
You have a great list of favorites here, Kim. I’ve never tried apricot tea, but it sounds delicious! Beautiful blanket. 🙂
A cup of hot tea anytime, spring flowers, baby geese. Also I enjoy the privilege of living in America. I was standing at my kitchen sink bemoaning the low water pressure when it struck me how thankful we am to have running water, electricity etc. Feeling thankful and peaceful.
“In everything give thanks!” Truth from the Bible, lived out every day by Grandma Fossey!
It’s a very good list! Ways to relax and enjoy being in his presence. I’ve started Praying the Hours using a booklet, and it’s added so much to my quiet time each day as well. Blessings to you.
Ohhh, that sounds wonderful! I keep thinking I should set a reminder on my phone for prayer times. I like this concept.
I am loving this post! I’m so happy you’re able to remind yourself of the little things that usually end up being the big things! This encourages me to stop and smell the roses, something I desperately need to do! Enjoy your beautiful week!
Thank you for your encouragement, Carolyn. God bless your week and your work!
