A Few of My Favorite Things | August
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8 ESV
Today I’m thinking of all the true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and praiseworthy things in my life and giving thanks. Welcome to my August round-up of things for which I am thankful.
Rain!
Oh, I love me some rain! Oklahoma has remained gloriously green–GREEN–throughout July and August. I enjoy cozy, drippy, snuggle-up-and-read-a-good-book days. My husband might have a slightly different opinion when he’s inspecting roofs and foundations in a downpour, but I have the benefit of cozying up inside and observing the downpour.
I’m certain part of my love of storms stems from the fact that I grew up in the desert of Moab, Utah, where precipitation was an event. When my husband and I first moved to Florida years ago, I panicked when it started pouring rain. Certain we were in danger of floating away, I called my husband at work and expressed my fears. He laughed at me.
Oh.
At any rate, although I haven’t lived in the desert for decades, I’ve maintained my sense of wonder and enchantment at any precipitation.
Saturday Tea Dates
My husband and I have recently instituted a new routine that I’m looking forward to throughout the week. On Saturday afternoon, we go to our local Barnes and Noble Cafe for a working date. He starts the inspection reports for the week for his Home Inspection business, while I take my planner and work on my goals for the week. I review my Power Sheets and fill in my planner. (I’ll share a link at the bottom so you can learn more about Power Sheets.)
We sip our tea and nibble on a snack while we chat and work. At some point I wander the New Releases for a while, then go enjoy a few picture books.
I also regularly meet with my friend in the early mornings on Saturday for a long walk, so Saturday is full of treats for me!
Games at Barnes & Noble
Speaking of Barnes & Noble, I’m ridiculously excited by this recent development! My local store stocked up on a selection of games and issued an invitation for us to play a game while we enjoy the cafe offerings. As a committed lover of family Game Night, this is a most welcome event.
I examined a couple games and read the instructions to see if I might be interested in purchasing. Today is my Momma’s birthday, so I took her out for tea. We played a couple rousing games of Scrabble and enjoyed every minute.
Singing Hymns and Worship Songs
I’m so thankful for the opportunity to sing hymns and worship songs with other believers. Corporate worship is a wonderful blessing to me. My frequent illnesses leave me missing church frequently, and I’m doubly thankful when I am able to join in. Singing worship music lifts my spirit even when I’m struggling.
TV Series I’m Loving
Lark Rise to Candleford
I recently read in one of Sally Clarkson‘s books that she and her adult daughters watch this series every fall. While I’d heard of it before, I had never watched it. Imagine my delight when I discovered all four seasons are currently available to watch free on Amazon Prime Video!
The drama is set in 19th century England, and the action takes place in the towns of Lark Rise and Candleford. Lark Rise is a small farming community, and Candleford is the nearby larger village. It’s a delightful series, and I plan to purchase the DVDs so I can watch whenever the mood strikes.
This wraps up my A Few of My Favorite Things | August. Now it’s your turn! Please share something you are especially thankful for at this time. Share in the comments or in any of my social media accounts. I love to hear from you!
