Christmas Stockings for Deployed Soldiers Project & How You Can Help

Hello to all my friends! I’ve undertaken a huge project, and I’m here to tell you all about it…and invite you to take part if you would like.

I’ve decided to send a Christmas stocking to every deployed soldier in an entire Infantry Company.

Because sometimes a Mom just wants to do something…anything. (You can read I Am a Soldier’s Mom here.)

Christmas stockings have always been one of my favorite parts of celebrating Christmas. I loved them as a child, and I loved them as a parent. My children’s Christmas stockings were absolutely ridiculous: I would tuck away small surprises, and then on Christmas Eve–every single time–realize that I had way too many items for each stocking.

So, everyone received a stocking and an extra gift bag full of assorted surprises. I sometimes think my love of sending Grammy Boxes is related to my love for Christmas stockings. All those fun, random, carefully selected gifts…(You can read about Grammy Boxes here.)

Every soldier needs a little bit of childhood on Christmas, don’t you agree?

This is a big project. I may be in over my head…

My sister has experience with fund raising and putting together large events, so she’s given me helpful advice. An Army Mom friend, Tracie Ciambiotti, has a military ministry and has done this on an even larger scale, and she has also stepped in with practical tips.

Thirdly, you could come help with the Stocking Stuffing Party!

We have Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts doing a huge stocking stuffing party. I believe we have enough people power for the job, but you can certainly stop by to help if you’re in the Oklahoma City metro area. I would like to provide Christmas party refreshments to the helpers, and if you like to bake and want to help provide refreshments, let me know!
