Faithful | Word of the Year
Faithful | Word of the Year
Have you ever chosen a theme or word of the year? This is my fourth year to choose one, and I’ve found it to be helpful to choose a focus. I’ve chosen the word Faithful as my Word of the Year for 2021. In the past I’ve selected the words Cultivate, Steadfast, and Less (which turned out to be a little more descriptive for 2020 than I had anticipated).
Let’s dig in and discuss the word faithful.
Faithful: Meaning
Faithful, adjective
strict or thorough in the performance of duty: a faithful worker.
true to one’s word, promises, vows, etc.
steady in allegiance or affection; loyal; constant: faithful friends.
reliable, trusted, or believed.

Synonyms for Faithful

Faithful: Verse of the Year
Oh, I found so many verses that really spoke to me! I’ve decided on this one for my theme verse:
“This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.” 1 Corinthians 4:1-2
For further study, here are other verses about being faithful:
“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.” Matthew 25:23
“This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.” 1 Corinthians 4:1-2
“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes.” Matthew 24:45-46
“Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you.” 1 Samuel 12:24
“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.” Luke 16:10
Why I’ve Chosen Faithful as My Word of the Year
As a perfectionistic, all-or-nothing kind of girl, I frequently live my life in either a state of either frenzy or total discouragement. “If I can’t do it perfectly, then why try?” Of course, both of these choices are unhealthy and unfruitful. Instead, I’m learning to choose faithful, small steps toward goals and growth.
When I look at the things I want for my life–strong relationships, rich spiritual life, health and wellness, serving God and others well, using my talents and gifts, leaving a rich legacy–it becomes obvious that the only way to accomplish these goals is little-by-little. Step by step. Faithfully.
I plan to explore the Faithful theme as it pertains to different areas of my life. Will you join me this year as I apply the word faithful to my small step-by-step goals?
