Gracelaced & Garden of Truth Book Review
“Some things aren’t resolved in one weekend. Some hurts don’t go away. Some prayers are not quickly answered, and some seasons don’t yield the fruit we had hoped for.
But just because God does not remove the thorn doesn’t mean He’s not using it for our good and for His glory.” Ruth Chou Simons, Gracelaced

I’ll just tell you straight out…
You WANT this devotional.
You NEED this devotional.
Your mom, your sister, all your friends need this devotional.
I’m giving this thing away right and left, and I plan to keep doing so.
Gracelaced: Discovering Timeless Truths Through Seasons of the Heart by artist Ruth Chou Simons is brimming with breathtaking artwork on every page. I feel like I’m enjoying a mini soul vacation each time I open the book.
But it’s not just a lovely book.
It’s a book full of deep Truth. It asks questions that stop you in your tracks and make you realize where your warped thinking is impacting your own life and your ability to love and serve others. It opens your eyes to the idols of your heart. I teared up in the very first devotional.
Each devotional is steeped in Scripture, offering passages written out in the text as well as suggested passages for delving deeper. There is an invitation to respond to each passage with probing questions and ample space for journaling. You’ll want to brew yourself a cup of hot tea, grab your favorite pens, and give yourself time to savor your devotions.
I had the privilege of meeting Ruth Chou Simons recently at a book signing, and hearing her speak twice at the BGCO Women’s Retreat. She spoke of her passion to encourage women to begin preaching Truth to themselves every day, to help them realize that they should not allow their emotions and wrong thoughts to rule and dictate their lives.
She also spoke about the different seasons of life, that purpose and productivity often do not look as we expect. She reminded us that the “little things” are important; the little things are really the big things. I have linked to both of these speaking sessions at the bottom of this post if you’d like to hear her.
Garden of Truth Review
Garden of Truth by Ruth Chou Simons is a small book that you can easily tuck in your purse. Each of the fifty-eight two page spreads contains lovely artwork, selected Scripture, and a short application. Ruth wanted to encourage women to sow these seeds of Scripture Truth into their lives.

Love these first two! My mentor gave them to me for Christmas, and you’re right – it’s not just pretty, it’s profoundly true to my soul. I’ll definitely check out the third – i know the perfect person to give it to!
I was happy to order through your affiliate! (:
Thank you, Sue! I so appreciate you doing that.
I am a stick to the Bible kind of gal and don’t really do devotionals but I think you might have sold me on this one! Thank you! I will be checking this out! It seems grounded in truth which is a huge thing for me!
Yes, I agree! This is solidly Scripture-based. I still believe in actually studying the Bible, but I also enjoy a lovely devotional like this. It’s a Saturday treat for me with a cup of tea and a relaxing hour.
What beautiful devos! And they would make a great gift for any mother, this Mother’s Day! Beautiful pictures too, Kim!
I agree! I gave copies to my mom and daughters-in-law for Easter because I couldn’t wait. I appreciate your comments! Thank you.
