Looking for your next good read? I’m on a roll this month, with several great books that kept me up into the wee hours because I could not put them down! Aren’t those the best kind of books? The ones that leave you bleary-eyed and semi-functional the next day? Walking around the house like a zombie, dropping off into a doze in mid-sentence?
Maybe it’s just me.
Fiction Books

Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate
This is historical fiction based on the Memphis Tennessee Children’s Home Society scandal. Director Georgia Tann orchestrated a web of lies, deceit, kidnapping, and abuse in order to financially benefit from the illegal adoptions of poor children. The characters in this book are fictional, but they feel real. I finished this book in one day, neglecting household responsibility and sleep.

Need to Know by Karen Cleveland
I didn’t even know I liked spy thrillers! I highly enjoyed this debut book and am eager for more from her. It’s obvious there will be more…

Song of the Lion by Anne Hillerman
Anne Hillerman has taken up the pen and continued her father Tony Hillerman’s legacy. I enjoy these books set in the Four Corners region of the United States, my home stomping grounds. I was born in Arizona, grew up in southeastern Utah, and vacationed in New Mexico and Colorado throughout my growing up years. I’m a child of the desert. In addition to the physical setting, I am enthralled by the Native American lore and traditions sprinkled throughout. This book is the story of a female Navajo Tribe Officer and her fellow officers as they solve a dangerous bombing case.
Christian Fiction Books

To See the Moon Again by Jamie Langston Turner
I’m a fan of Jamie Langston Turner, and have read all her books. She is a deep thinker and can wax philosophical, just like me. I’ve recommended her books to someone who really did not care for her writing style, but I continue to recommend her. In this book, the meeting of two women changes both their lives in profound ways.
My favorite book of Jamie Langston Turner’s is A Garden to Keep. While it is part of the Derby Series, each book can stand alone.

The Wedding Shop by Rachel Hauck
This book employs my favorite form of storytelling: two stories on different timelines told simultaneously. This one centers around a Wedding Shop, a proprietor and a wanna-be proprietor. If you enjoy Christian Romance books, I think you’ll enjoy this.
Christian Non-Fiction Books

My Name is Mahtob by Mahtob Mahmoody
You may be familiar with the book Not Without My Daughter that was published in the 1980s and made into a movie starring Sally Field and a scary Alfred Molina. This beautiful book is written by Mahtob, the daughter at the center of the controversy, who is now a grown woman. It is a wonderful story of redemption and forgiveness, and I highly recommend it.

Deeper Waters by Denise J. Hughes
As a child, Denise Hughes’s family was devastated by a tragedy that struck at the foundation of their family and faith. Thus began a journey for her, which ultimately led to a ministry of encouraging women to turn to God, connect with Him in prayer, and be a student of His Word. What an encouraging, honest, and refreshing book!

31 Proverbs to Light Your Path by Liz Curtis Higgs
First, I love the book of Proverbs and read from it almost daily. Second, I am a longtime fan of Liz Curtis Higgs. About fifteen years ago, I read one of her novels and sent an email to her sharing how God has used it to speak to a struggle in my life. She responded with a long, very personal and heartfelt email to me. I was touched and encouraged by her words, and I have made it a habit to read everything of hers I find!
Each chapter of this devotional book selects one verse from Proverbs and breaks it down for in-depth study. It is full of illustrations and applications and has a study guide at the end of the book that I found particularly helpful. I highly recommend this study.
Now it’s your turn to share what you’re reading! Please tell me all about it in the comments.
