Joy of Missing Out Book Review
Joy of Missing Out Book Review
I have a love/hate relationship with productivity.
On the one hand, I am all about living into my purpose and using my life intentionally. On the other hand, I fully understand the tyranny of the to-do list (as much as I love them), and the trap of feeling that I’m only worthy if I’m productive.
Frequently, I read books by “productivity experts” that make me feel less than because I have no desire for empire-building, the accumulation of wealth, or goals for power or acclaim. I don’t want to read any more books like that.
What if I could recommend a book to you that would guide you to discover your own priorities, and then encourage you to joyfully live out what is important to you each day? Guess what? I can recommend such a book.

The Joy of Missing Out by Tonya Dalton
The book is subtitled: Live More By Doing Less. Tonya points out that being “efficient” doesn’t necessarily lead to us being “effective”.
We fail to realize that being efficient is about getting things done; being effective is getting what’s important done.” Tonya Dalton
The book is chock-full of exercises to help us define our Vision Statement and Core Values. Multiple links to worksheets, helpful lists and exercises allow us to dig deep.
Here is a random sampling of Questions to Ask Yourself to aid in discovering your Core Values:
- What words do I want others to use to describe me when I’m not around?
- What do I do to impact others in a positive way?
- Is there a gap between what I’m currently doing and what I’m dreaming of doing?
Four major sections focus on how to:
- Pursue Discovery
- Find Clarity
- Create Simplicity
- Achieve Harmony
I highly recommend this book!
I was given a free advance reader copy of this book as a member of the #JOMO Launch Team. This is an honest review, freely given.
