My Daily Devotions | A Look into My Quiet Time
“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
My Daily Devotions | A Look Into My Quiet Time
My Daily Devotions | A Look into My Quiet Time is a personal, in-depth look into how I spend my devotional time. Since my teen years, I’ve determined to spend time daily in God’s Word. Some seasons have been more faithful than others; some have been more productive. However faithfully executed, this has been a constant goal of mine.
In my current life situation, I am able to revel in blocks of uninterrupted devotional time. My children are grown. My grandchildren live far away. My husband works long hours away from home. Upon my doctors’ recommendations, I no longer teach. I do answer phones for my husband’s business and do his scheduling, but this still leaves my days largely free to schedule at will. Writing and blogging take up an amazing amount of time, but I am free to spend time in study.
Your days may look quite different from mine. The last thing I want to do is discourage you because you don’t have the large blocks of time I have! I hope to encourage you to incorporate some form of devotional time into your day. Believe me, the day will come when you no longer have small children tugging at your sleeve, rejecting nap time, becoming unexpectedly ill or cranky. Rather than longing for different circumstances, make the most of where you are in life!
Without further ado, here’s how I currently spend my devotional time. I pray you’ll find something here to encourage your walk with the Lord.
She Reads Truth
I highly recommend the She Reads Truth app and studies. The app itself is free to download, and there is a selection of free studies. Most of the studies cost $1.99 or $2.99 to download, or you can purchase a membership for $1.99 per month which unlocks all the available studies for download. The app contains an online Bible in multiple translations. Each day there is a new devotional. The Scripture is included right on the first page, then the devotional, then a page for comments and interaction. You may also go directly to their website at shereadstruth.com to read the daily devotional for free. I enjoy having the devotional on my phone so I can study wherever I may happen to be: in the doctor’s office waiting room, the coffee shop, in my car waiting for someone.
My goal is to make it as easy as possible to have my daily devotions.

Gratitude Journal
After prayer, I begin my devotional time by writing at least three things for which I’m thankful. I began this practice after reading 1001 Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are by Ann Voskamp. This practice was profoundly life changing, and I plan to continue as long as I live.
She Reads Truth Bible
I’m using the She Reads Truth Bible to read through the Bible this year. I am studying book-by-book, carefully reading the introductory material on each book and the recommended cross-references for each chapter. I’ll be sharing a full review soon. I have this blue leatherette version, which I prefer over hardcover.
Bible Study
Next, I do a chapter from a Bible study. I’m currently going through The Women of Easter, by Liz Curtis Higgs, which I recommend. It would be especially meaningful to study one chapter of this per day in the eight days preceding Easter. Prior to this, I finished 31 Proverbs to Light Your Path by Liz Curtis Higgs, and found that encouraging and convicting. Please note that there are study guides in the back of both of these books with additional verses, questions to answer, and journaling prompts.
Christian Living Book
Finally, I read a chapter or two in a Christian Living Book. I’m currently reading through Adorned by Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, which has the depth and Biblical teaching I’ve come to expect from her. I highly recommend this book that encourages us to grow as Christian women and become the mentors we’re called to be. Previously I read Deeper Waters by Denise J Hughes, which is her story of her search for richer, deeper faith in the face of devastating family and personal tragedy.
Daily Devotions: Saturday Faith “Treats”
Our Saturday mornings are generally leisurely. I often go for a long walk with my dear friend, then come home and spend the rest of the morning and early afternoon watching cooking shows and treating myself to some fun faith building treats.
Gracelaced Devotional
Once a week I am sure to treat myself to this, the most stunningly beautiful art/devotional book ever. The watercolors and photographs are breathtakingly gorgeous…but don’t be fooled into thinking it’s a lightweight devotional. It is full of Biblical truth that goes straight to the heart. She has a new book coming out soon, Garden of Truth. Here’s my full review of both of these beautiful devotional books. I highly recommend you make Ruth Chou Simons’s books part of your daily devotions!
Inspire Bible for Creative Journaling
I enjoy spending some time coloring in my journaling Bible. I’m a beginner at this, so I appreciate that this Bible has multitudes of pre-made coloring pages for me to color in with my markers, gel pens, watercolor brush pens, or coloring pencils. They’ve also come out with a new version, the Inspire Praise Bible. It’s purple! I want it! Here’s my full review of the Inspire Journaling Bible.
Write the Word Bible Journals
These beautiful journals have suggested verses to write out each day, as well as other journaling prompts. Beautiful journal! They come in several different colors and themes, too! Scripture writing has been a valuable addition to my daily devotions.
Now it’s your turn! Please share how you spend your devotional time. What Bible study are you doing right now? Which book of the Bible are you reading? I’m getting ready to read one of my favorite Old Testament books, Ruth. Please share in the comments or any of my social media!
Kim, you inspired me to create a gratitude journal. 💜 it is purple by the way 😉
You just made me very happy. I love encouraging people! And purple!!! Yay! 💜 Love you 😘
Wow! Thank you for sharing such powerful ways to stay inspired. I love how you keep it fun and creative. I read 1001 gifts and it was life changing to embrace her perspectives on gratitude. Gratitude is the key to my husband’s heart.
Thank you, Jeannie. That book was instrumental in pulling me out of a scary downward emotional spiral. I thank God for Christian writers who share from the heart.
I have just added all the books to my wish list. My quiet time with my Savior has been neglected lately.
I’m praying you’ll find joy in devotional time this week. Thank you for commenting.
This is such a great list! I also use the She Reads Truth app and appreciate having the Word at my fingertips!
Their graphics are lovely, too! I appreciate that bit of beauty every morning.
Thanks so much for sharing this, Kim. Spending time with God daily is important. I’ve found that if I show up and be present, God is already there!
This is so true!
“Rather than longing for different circumstances, make the most of where you are in life!” Love that!
I have the Inspire Bible, (in turquoise- my favorite color), and it’s my favorite Bible version too!
Thanks for sharing these ideas! 🙂
I’ve been sick on the couch all day and I think I’ll get my Inspire Bible and color right now! Thank you for reading and commenting. 😊
