Searching for Certainty captured my heart from page one, and I believe it will capture yours as well.

When author Shelly Miller began writing Searching for Certainty: Finding God in the Disruptions of Life, she had no clue just how disrupted her life was going to become during the writing.

First, a worldwide pandemic erupted, bringing uncertainty to everyone in its path: changing plans, changing lives, and turning previously simple decisions into unexpected challenges. “Is it safe for me to be around my parents?” “Is it wise for me to _____________ (fill in the blank: go to the store, the meetup, the park, sit on a jury, the library…)”?

Next, Shelly was diagnosed with cancer and prescribed a huge, terrifying surgery…

And then after surgery and recovery, the cancer returned with the words: inoperable and terminal.

Uncertainty? Yes, I think we all agree that is a lot of uncertainty.

Oh, how my heart cried out for certainty when our youngest son was deployed and things got iffy with their neighbor to the east. How I longed for certainty when Covid came and extended their deployment and stopped all mail shipments to their theater of operation. Even now that he’s safely returned, he is not allowed to leave his base to come visit. When will it end? I don’t know.

I long for certainty, and I have no doubt you feel exactly the same.
