When Strivings Cease Book Review
This book hit me in a tender spot.
When Strivings Cease book by Ruth Chou Simons is for the perfectionist. The “people pleaser”. If you’re striving and working and feeling you will never measure up…this one’s for you.
When Strivings Cease Book Review
In this book Ruth Chou Simons shares a personal and vulnerable backstory to her Christian faith. It is powerful and moving, and I found myself highlighting much of the book.
The subtitle lays it on the line: Replacing the Gospel of Self-Improvement with the Gospel of Transforming Grace.
Whew. Striving? Believing I can earn grace? Thinking I can “self-improve” my way into favor?
Who, me?
Yes. Me.
And maybe you, my friend.
When Strivings Cease: Exposing Lies and Faulty Thinking
“So if you find yourself constantly trying to work toward being deemed worthy of God’s attention, thinking you have to be enough before you can be fully welcomed, assuming his love and faithfulness is only in place if your actions are perfect, take a step back. Find your way to the firm foundation of who the Bible says he is.”
Ruth Chou Simons, When Strivings Cease
I highly recommend this book to you, as well as Ruth’s lovely previous books. As always, you will find Scripture-saturated and grace-filled content that will encourage you.
